Everything you need to prepare your camper for the week, and answers to the questions we hear most.
Before you send him to any camp, ask these twelve questions. Here is how we answer each one.
Many camps put a big name on the flyer and a college kid on the mat. Ask who runs each session.
Here, the coaches on the flyer are the coaches on the mat: Cal Poly's Division I staff, with current Cal Poly wrestlers as clinicians.
Above 15 to 1 your son waits for a look.
Ours is 8 to 1.
Ask for the building, the room, and who is stationed on each floor.
Cal Poly residence halls. Staff on every floor, checked every night. Guaranteed.
On call is not on site.
Our athletic trainer is in the building during every training session.
Every adult around your son should be screened and certified.
Every coach and staff member is background screened and CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.
Ask how updates reach you and how you reach him.
Daily updates in the parent portal, and our staff can reach you directly.
Growing wrestlers need seconds.
Nine meals in a Cal Poly dining hall, all you can eat.
Ask for a sample day, not a brochure.
Morning technique, afternoon drilling and live, pool, dinner, an evening activity, lights out at a set time.
Most first time campers worry about this more than the wrestling.
Most of our campers come alone. Coaches place solo campers in small groups from day one.
Get the policy in writing before you pay.
The $250 deposit transfers to the other camp or to a teammate if plans change. Cancel more than three weeks out and you get back everything else you've paid, minus the $250 nonrefundable deposit. Inside three weeks, it's a 50% refund. Once camp begins, we can't offer refunds or credits.
Ask what is not included.
Housing, nine meals, all coaching, pool, bowling, night hike, and supervision around the clock. This is what a Division I camp looks like.
Technique is the floor, not the ceiling.
Better technique, a recruiting talk from a Division I recruiting coordinator, friends from three states, and the confidence that comes from four days at Cal Poly.

Residential and commuter check in details, including exact time and location, are sent to registered families ahead of camp week.
End of week pick up details are shared in the same pre camp communication, along with a schedule for the final day.
Trained staff supervise campers throughout the day and overnight, whether they're training, eating, or in residential housing.
Whether you're weighing camp for the first time or you're a returning family with a new question, start here.
Mustang Wrestling Camp is built for motivated wrestlers, grades 6-12, with at least a year of experience, who want to grow their skill, confidence, and independence. Campers thrive whether they arrive with a full team or completely on their own.
Better technique and mat awareness are just the start. Campers consistently come home more confident, more mature, and more coachable, the kind of growth that carries over well past the wrestling season.
Division I coaching, a structured environment, full supervision, and a week built around real relationships, not just drills. It's a big part of why we've sold out 6 summers in a row.
Starting in 2027, Mustang Wrestling Camp returns to Cal Poly's campus for the first time in six years, training and staying right on site: real dorms, a real dining hall, and real Division I training facilities. See what's new on our Facility page.
Safety is our top priority. Campers are supervised by staff and Cal Poly wrestlers during housing, meals, training, and every activity in between. All coaches are CPR, AED, and First Aid certified, and an athletic trainer is on site throughout training.
Beyond certified staff and an on site athletic trainer, every coach and staff member completes a background screening, and staff on every residence hall floor are checked nightly.
Bring medications in clearly labeled containers at check in. Our camp director stores and administers them exactly as parents instruct, and everything is returned at check out. Campers may carry rescue inhalers or EpiPens with parent approval.
Absolutely, most of our campers do. Coaches and staff place solo campers into small groups from day one, and new friendships are consistently one of the most mentioned highlights of the week.
Each day balances high level wrestling instruction with recovery, nutrition, and fun: morning technique sessions, afternoon drilling, and evening activities like swimming, bowling, field games, or leadership challenges, all with supervised rest and meal times built in.
Residential campers stay in Cal Poly's own residence halls, with coaches and staff present in every housing area. Roommate requests open about a month before camp, and we do our best to honor them when space allows, though placement can't be guaranteed.
Meals are included for residential campers, and for commuter campers during the sessions they attend. Let us know about any allergies or dietary needs at registration and our dining team will accommodate them.
Yes, spectators are welcome to observe training sessions from designated viewing areas at no charge. To keep campers focused, we ask that spectators not enter the mats or athlete areas during training.
Yes. Commuters join every wrestling session, activity, and meal during the day and head home each evening, the full training experience without an overnight stay. See full pricing on our Camp Info page.
Check in includes registration verification, a medical form review, medication drop off, and housing instructions, all handled curbside to keep it quick and simple. Check out happens on the final day of your session. For safety, parents aren't able to enter housing areas.
Yes, and it's one of the best ways to experience camp. Teams registering as a group of 10 or more get a group discount, priority housing placement, and help organizing campers so the week runs smoothly for everyone.
Yes. Returning camper: $50 off. Sibling: $50 off. Group of 10 or more: $100 off each. One discount stacks with the early bird or the season rate. From March 1, your biggest single discount applies.
$250 holds his spot. It transfers to the other camp or to a teammate if plans change. The rest is split into three payments, the last one by May 1.
Campers may cancel any time before three weeks prior to camp and receive a refund of the amount paid, minus the $250 nonrefundable deposit. Cancellations within three weeks of camp receive a 50% refund. After camp begins, we are unable to offer refunds or credits for any reason.
The nonrefundable deposit helps cover staffing, facility, and administrative costs that are allocated as soon as registration is received.
Before camp, you'll receive final instructions, a packing list, and contact information by email. During camp, you get daily updates through the parent portal, and our staff can reach you directly with any updates.
Right now, Mustang Wrestling Camp is offered for boys, grades 6-12. We know interest in girls' wrestling continues to grow, and we'll share it here if that changes.
